The Red Cross in Quad Cities Metropolitan Area in Iowa was surprised to receive a box in the mail containing a diamond ring with 31 diamonds and weighing ¾ carats. The ring was found to be worth $300. The box containing the diamond ring included a simple note saying, “pawn use flood help.”

Now that’s what I call selfless giving!

The flooding of the Mississippi is currently affecting the residents of Iowa.

Diamond Earrings are the Perfect Accessory

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 7:20 am

They say that a dress is only as beautiful as the accessories that go with it. Diamond earrings are for my money one of the most beautiful accessories.  When they are well chosen they really accentuate a woman’s face. Of course they should be chosen so as to match the wearer’s hair color, skin complexion etc.

As far as style, the main choice is between dangling diamond earrings, and diamond stud earrings. The later are great for special occasions and when you really want to make an entrance. The former are good for every day wearing, and are the embodiment of understated elegance.

Shopping for an Engagement Ring

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 5:50 am

In my last post I wrote about choosing an engagement ring. I thought I’d continue on this theme, as I am sure that there are some guys out there who’d appreciate some basic down to earth engagement ring buying advice.

Once you have checked out your girlfriend’s personal style preferences, and consulted with her friends and family, why not make up some smart excuse to go to the mall (for example, because you need help buying a shirt). Malls generally have jewelry stores, and this might give you an opportunity to catch her doing some window shopping.

When the time comes to actually make a purchase, you are going to have to gather some information about diamond engagement ring prices.

How to Choose an Engagement Ring

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 5:13 am

Recently I posted about the 4Cs of diamonds, a general guide to understanding the main characteristics of diamonds. It’s well worth reading before shopping for a diamond engagement ring. This posting made me think that it might be useful to give some general tips about buying that special diamond engagement ring in general. How do you choose an engagement ring? Naturally, the diamond engagement ring price has to fit your pocket, but what about the style? Here you need to do a little bit of detective work.

I suggest that you start taking a real interest (if you haven’t so far) in what your girlfriend likes and dislikes in terms of fashion. Is her style conservative or outlandish? Does she like to blend in or stick out in the crowd? Does she like vivid or more subdued tones?

Next you might ask your girlfriends’ friends or relatives if they have discussed engagement rings, and if so, whether she expressed a particular preference.

Why Are Engagement Rings Worn on Ring Finger?

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 5:33 am

Why are engagement rings worn on the left hand ring finger? Apparently, this finger is thought to have a direct connection to the heart, and this belief goes back to ancient times. Because diamond engagement rings, regardless of the price, are a symbol of eternal love, the tradition to wear them on the left hand ring finger has remained.

Nevertheless, in some cultures, the ring is worn on the right hand.

Enagagement Ring Thief Ends Up Behind Bars

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 11:49 am

A man from Pennsylvania, who stole a diamond engagement ring to impress a woman he was infatuated with, has ended up behind bars. Apparently the guy pretended to be a regular customer, musing for hours over different rings for hours he finally picked out a shiny three-carat diamond solitaire in a platinum setting. Then, when the store assistant was not looking for a moment, the guy swiped the ring and left the store.

A far more reasonable, and definitely more legal proposition is to visit Diamonds-USA.

The 4Cs of Diamonds

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 8:46 am

Here is a quick guide to the 4Cs of diamonds, well worth reading before you set off to buy a diamond engagement ring for that special someone:

Carat: The size of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat equals 0.2 grams. However, it’s important to remember that bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Cut: Cut (not to be mistaken with shape), refers to the quality of workmanship that brings out the brilliance in a diamond. Once considered an art, diamond cutting is now more often thought of as a science. This is mainly due to the introduction of high-precision diamond cutting equipment, which can cut a given diamond in such a way that will bring out its full potential.

Color: Color simply refers to a diamond’s natural color, as determined by nature. Colorless diamonds are graded D, E, and F, while at the other end of the spectrum, diamonds take on an increasingly yellow hue

Clarity: Nearly all diamonds have some level of flaws, imperfections, or inclusions, and the naturally affect the appearance and brilliance.

The Perfect Engagement Ring for the Perfect Match

Filed under: Information on Diamonds — johnm @ 5:25 am

Many reasons bring two people together, but common interests and passions are very important, and can certainly contribute to the longevity of a marriage. So I was not surprised to read about Andy Mele and Lisa Rainwater, two well known New York environmentalists who recently tied the knot. Both are involved in organizations that are working to protect and preserve the Hudson river.

I enjoyed reading about how Andy Mele found the diamond engagement ring for his new wife. Apparently he was in a jeweler’s store with his mother, who was having difficulty removing a ring from her swollen finger. While in the shop, Mele suddenly noticed the engagement ring that had been eluding him for months. He was overjoyed!
