Loose diamonds found in Ohio, and thought to have originated from the Canadian Shield, may have ended in eastern United States after a comet impacted Canada during the last ice age. Geologists analyzed the chemical composition of the loose diamonds, and confirmed their Canadian origins. The cause is thought to be the ejection of loose diamonds into the atmosphere as a result of the impact of a comet, which caused widespread destruction of fauna and flora. eventually settling in Ohio. The other theory is that they were transported to their current location by rivers that were created by the immediate melting of glaciers upon the impact of the comet.

Researchers have carried out an extensive study on a valuable collection of natural colored loose diamonds, in order to further understand their properties, and the phenomena that bring about their unique colors. Natural colored loose diamonds, like all natural diamonds, are unique. No one diamond is like another. That is what makes them so special. However nowadays, it is possible to give color to diamonds by artificial means. The new research might enable gemologists to be able to distinguish between natural colored loose diamonds, and diamonds that have had color applied to them.

The management at a famous temple in Mumbai, India, was surprised to find an usual item in the donation box. The item found in Prabhadevi temple donation box was a cell phone with inlaid diamonds. Although staff are used to receiving expensive gifts such as diamond earrings etc., the unique mobile phone was quite a surprise. The diamonds have been valued at over USD 8000. However with active bidding for the phone already underway, the cell phone is expected to fetch over USD 45,000.

Rumors abound as to whether Christiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United and Portugal national team footballer, has split up with his busty Spanish model girlfriend. Nereida Gallardo denied that the two had split, and was recently seen wearing a diamond engagement ring that Ronaldo had given her.

Ronaldo is a lover of diamond jewelry himself, and is often seen wearing stud diamond earrings.

If you followed the UK version of Big Brother, no doubt you would have heard of Danielle Lloyd. The busty fashion model and celebrity Big Brother participant, was spotted in an Essex night club in north east London wearing what might have been an engagement ring.  Apparently Lloyd is dating British muscleman David Macintosh.

Here’s an original idea for a diamond ring…a company in Switzerland makes artificial diamonds out of the ashes of the deceased. The strange business has clients from all sections of society. The ashes are sorted so that the calcium and potassium are separated from the carbon, of which diamonds are made. To create a diamond, the carbon is placed under immense pressure and heated to 1700 degrees centigrade. First graphite is created, and then the application of more pressure and heat result in the creation of a diamond.

The diamonds are then cut for diamond rings or pendants, and presumably also diamond earrings.

Sotheby’s high-end “Important Jewels Antique and Contemporary” auction on July 22 has some extraordinary items on offer.

The center piece is an IF pear shaped diamond ring, weighing 5.20 carats. The diamond ring might be sold for as much as $239,000.

There is also a pair of stud diamond earrings worth around $160,000. The earrings each have a diamond weighing just over 3 carats.

The auction will take place in London.
